My step son started air force basic training course, left last Monday, and no one has gotten a call or letter from him. We have no idea how to get this information, was wondering if anyone can tell us when we might expect a call from him? Is there like no phone there or no access to the trainees or what?

My daughter went into the army. Believe me he doesn't have time to write. He's not avoiding you. They're up at 5 running before breakfast and light out is at 9 pm. Not just bed, but lights out literally. Basic training lasts 6 weeks, and you probably won't hear from him at this time. They are too exhausted. Phone calls are not allowed, cell phones are confiscated.

The purpose of basic training is to reporgram minds, so there could be any number of reasons he hasn't called. If I were you I'd call the local Air Force recruiter that enlisted him and ask if this is normal. I wouldn't do it just yet as it could get him in trouble, but no matter where he is in the world you can always contact the American Red Cross and they'll let his boss know you're concerned about him.

They actually make the bt's write to their families and give their mailing addresses and squadron information after a couple of weeks as I recall. I got shuffled around in the first 2 weeks and this is probably typical. Consider your step son an adult now, btw. ;)
