Actually, if you want a serious answer to this riddle, it's the egg that came first. Chickens, and all birds, are descendents of theropod dinosaurs. Both the early amphibians and the later reptiles and dinosaurs, as well as the pterosaurs, all laid eggs. Birds didn't evolve till later. Ergo, the egg came first. The chicken afterward.

Eggs were here long before chickens. However, if the egg you're referring to is a chicken egg, then the chicken came first. A chicken egg has to be laid by a chicken. It's an evolution thing...chances are the chicken that sprang from the first egg was the mutated offspring of some other kind of bird....therefore not a chicken egg.

I saw this in a cartoon once. The chicken was laying back smoking a cigarette, and the egg eas sitting up in bed with her arms crossed. I guess that answered that question!

the chicken came first.because the chicken is actually a chicken and the egg will probably become a chicken.in the dictionary,actuality comes before probability,so, the chicken comes first.
