Well, did he dewey it on purpose? Perhaps the books were long overdue for reshelving. Periodically, the librarians need to make sure everyone is on the same page with staff duties so that slackers have the opportunity to turn over a new leaf.
On the other hand, the librarian may just be experiencing a difficult chapter in his life and is acting like a card to cover his angst. Mark my words, if that is the case I hope they have the spine to stick by him to The End.
