NOTE: I don't want any heaven/hell theories, or any else religion-based

I just don't get it. Normally I'm not the kind of person to ask these impossible questions, but this one has been bugging me lately. What's the point of going our life, when it leads to nothing but our own destruction?

Pay close attention. This is not I repeat is not a heaven and hell theory. Now close your eyes and try to focus on nothing for a minute, then try to find your center, the vague place where your thoughts and voice exist. You might find with practice and patience that this place isn't always in your head.

I am a firm believer in the philisophic theory that humans are like a ghost in a machine. to back this up I present to you 2 facts. #1 Your body is composed of flesh which is a form matter and the processes and movements can be considered a form of mechanics (the machine). And #2 your brain has energy and the signals emmitting from it control your body in a variety of functions (the ghost). My little mantra when things get tough is "My spirit controls my body and my body is just a machine".

To further this along I offer you the scientific law of Conservation of energy and matter. It states that "Energy and matter can neither be created nor destroyed only transfered or transformed.

Like I just said your body(flesh) is actually one form of matter and when you die it will decay and breakdown into worm food and dirt. Now your spirit, the stuff that makes your body function and gives you your personality is (I believe) part of the devine energy source.

Your energy is a little piece of your Mom's and a little piece of your Dad's and since you can't destroy energy it has to be either transformed or transfered. Maybe when we die we just rejoin the original source or maybe we're tranformed or reincarnated into someone or something else. No matter what I honestly believe death is not the end. Do I want to die? Hell no, I'm still trying to get this living thing right.

And now that I've gotten back to your original question. You should live because life is so precious. Think of life like driving a really nice car. Every once in a while you have an accident, but when you keep it tuned up and fueled up every new trip(new day) is a new adventure. We are so lucky and at the same time cursed to be aware of our existance. On one hand we know that at some point the ride is going to be over and on the other hand everyday we wake up we have the chance for a new adventure.

Don't be mad that life has to end, be thankful to the Universe that you still have life.

The premise of your question is incorrect. Death pertains to the body only. Death is another transformation of the body -- it is born, it grows, produces offspring, maintains for some time, dwindles and then dies. Yet, the life force, the energy that gives the body life and animates it, is not a part of the body or mind. Life means eternal spirit. There is nothing 'alive' about the body. The body is a bag of chemicals only all of which can be either manufactured in the lab or procured from a cadaver. Yet, if anyone were to take all the constituents of a human body, put them in their proper places, proper ratios, etc, etc, no one in their right mind would believe this body was 'alive'. It would still lay there as the bag of chemicals it is.

The body is a vehicle only, nothing more. The driver and occupier of the body is the eternal spirit soul, the spiritual energy of the Lord. Because the soul is eternal and the body is temporary, the soul must leave and find a new vehicle when the body is no longer viable. That leaving is what we call death. In reality the body was never alive in the first place.

The reason you find no purpose to life is because you are thinking you are the temporary body and not understanding your eternal nature. The purpose of human life is to become self-realized. As the name implies self-realization means that the person receives self knowledge of his eternal existence. It is revealed by purification of consciousness to him/herself alone. Just as when you eat a meal and become satisfied, you know your own feelings of satisfaction, but no one else knows this. And to prove to someone else how you felt would be very difficult if not impossible. How do you measure your satisfaction? In the same way, self-realization is the science of knowing the self, the soul, through purification of consiousness. The second chapter of the Bhagavad-gita gives more information than I could put here. So check that out at the link below.

There is a science fiction story called THE TEST. It suggests that life may be a test.
A good book on suicide is Step Back From the Exit by Jillayne arena---45 reasons not to commit suicide.
Life leads also to the next book by Jim Butcher, the next episode of Bones, Medium, 24, Without a Trace, Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs, Veronica Mars, and Smallville.
Some people can eat pizza; some ice cream.
Snoopy showed life is a place to dance inspite of the agony of bad news.

There's only one meaning to life and that's a temporary one: to decrease pain and increase pleasure..... all else is lost to oblivion.

Greatness may last a thousand years for a few and eternally for none. On the scale of earthly time, individual lives are but mere blinks of an eye. We're born, we live, we die and then you're not heard from ever again. There might be a tombstone or family tree made with your name on it, but eventually the tombstone weathers from age and who knows what media your family tree will be used. All the memories and accomplishments will be totally forgotten, unless you're a Hitler or Alexander the Great type person.

In a thousand years, your bones will be dust and no other trace of your existence will be seen, unless, of course you become fossilized for some reason, but even then, after thousands of years more, that will be disintegrated into dust. We influence the lives of our children and others, but they too will eventually die. So what's the point of living?

In astronomical terms, the Earth will eventually succumb to the supernova of our Sun, it's an astonomically certainty the earth will be burned to a crisp.

The universe is in the process of never ending evolution. Just like other things, you with your body are in the process of evolution. You have no control of it and therefore you just live the way you want to in the environment you are in until your body dies. But what happens to "you"? Here you have no choice except bring in the "spiritual concepts".

Please see below my answer to a question by "firefly" sometime ago: "Is there such a thing that you call your "self"? Ifso, describe it...?"

Answer: I don't know the exact answer. But I would like the following reasoning.

Am I the body? If so, if I have a headache, or my foot hurts, did my self go down and I feel less? I don't think so; actually I am more determined to get over it, I explore, ask and try every way to find a way to getting over it because my self is the same and as strong as it was before I started hurting. Same thing with emotions, brain activity, intelligence, creativity, etc all connected to the body. If I am happy and more comfortable with wealth and things that please my body such as, clothes, food, sex etc., are they the self? They can't be, because they are all external to me and they make me happy because I choose to be happy with them, but they are not me. Some people are happy in a poor house with lots of love of family and others are measurable even with billions of money around to spend, an choice of the self.

Am I the waking consciousness? No, because when I sleep, I still can dream in my sleeping consciousness and when I wake up I feel fully normal my self. My self is not my thoughts or creativity or intelligence, because they all are absent when I sleep. My self is definitely not my body because even if I cut off or lose in an accdent, a foot or a leg or an arm, my self is still strong and I figure out ways to overcome my disadvantages.

So, the only answer I can think of is that I must be the Spirit of God, just like the Scripture says that I am created in the image of God. Perhaps I am a small portion of God's Spirit combined with my personality which makes me a Soul. Take the personality part off, because it is connected intimately with my family, culture and traditions, I am simply the Spirit forever observing everything that is happening around my body.

I am in reality eternal and seperate and independent entity from my body.

I hope this helps.

The reason we live is to:

1) Reproduce
2) Evolve over time
3) Make the world a better place

Think about it like this, animals live on the earth for millions of years, some have become extinct, some have survived. Humans have survived as they have evolved with natural selection of good genetics. Unless a very large comet hit the earth human life would cease to exist.

But we are lucky to survive and keep the human race going, even though in the end we die. We each play a role in this life before we die, and are all a part of the continuance of human existence.

I won't give you a theory. But there are way too many beautiful things in life to live for, than to worry about death all of the time. Live and enjoy the moment, Carpe Diem. Some things are out of your control, if you find God, then great, you can have a whole'nother life to look forward to. If not, then why fret about death. Remember what your looking forward to for the moment, and know that achieving that makes life worth living. A million dollars, a love, a hope for the future, children, Christ, whatever it is that you have or want to have in this world, that is what you live for.

Well, you're currently alive, and I'm going to presume you don't have a death wish, so you're not on suicide watch.
So, with that established, what is the point of NOT going on with your life? If you say you only have this one chance, knowing that what you do in this life could well effect future generations, then why not do the best you possibly can? You affect others, knowingly or unknowingly, small scale or large. Everyone affects someone else. So, the question in turn is - how do you wish to be remembered, what affect/contibution do you want to make?

Are you looking for a purpose? There is no purpose once you remove the all the grandiose philosophies and religious beliefs. We are complex, multicelled, warmblooded, invertebraed, mammals; we begin with two cells which become one and then divide...from there on you get the rest of the clinical appraisal...You live because you choose to continue to do so. Have you ever read a book? Didn't you read it through to get to enjoy the ending?
Your life is like a story that only you can write...Once written there is no editing. If death truly is all that awaits us after life, then make your story the most fascinating it can be.

Does a painter ask what the point is to painting a picture, even though he knows with time it will eventually crumble into dust??

To some people a day is as a year, or a year is as a day. You do not need to "live", you can merely exist. I cannot imagine anyone would truly want to kill themselves, but I guess that is why we have mental care facilities that will take in someone who is suicidial, then turn them lose in 24 hours.

I do not intend to waste a minute of the life no matter who or what gave it to me. I honor my creation by continuing to make the most of my life.
