If my black friend is planning to wear a white dress, should she wear a black/brown bra (closer to her skin color), or should she wear a white bra (to match the dress color)?

I'm going with finding a bra that is close to her skin tone, but NOT a black bra.`On a darker skinned girl, the white bra will stand out like a beacon.
However, she could wear a slip over it all, so that her skin tone won't be showing through the dress at all.

If your friend's intention is not to have her bra show through her white dress, she needs to wear a nude/beige color bra, regardless of her skin color. Both a black and a white bra will show through a white dress. Try it! This was a childhood tip from my grandmother.

they say that when you wear a white shirt you should wear a beige bra because is does not show as much as even a white bra would show.
Now being dark skinned (black) I amnot sure what the rule is...

I don't think it matters. I have fair skin and a white bra shows under it anyway. What matter is what the dress is made out of. If it is sheer then skin tone, if not any color.

She should not wear a bra that will show through the dress. If she is wearing a white dress, she is safest going with a white bra so it does not show through her dress...
