Right now, my fire alarms are going off once every 10 minutes. I have checked my entire house, nothing is on fire. What the heck is going on and who do I call to stop it? Keep in mind, its almost 11pm local time.

These alarms do not have batteries - they are powered by the internal electrical wiring.

Alarms are seriesed so if one goes off, they all go off. The one in alarm or at fault should have the LED indicator lit solid. TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE ALARM SYSTEM> then remove the cover from the culprit. Often the cover has a small catch that can be released with a small screwdriver. Unless the unit is truly hard wired , there will be a plug marked line, or 120 volt. you may unplug this; do not unplug the alarm line. Odds are if you blow canned air on it , Especially directed at the top side of the exposed circuit board, the problem will clear up. Detectors have a finite life, it may be time to replace/upgrade your system Good luck.

We had same problem last week and it turned out to be a cricket that flew in to the detector head and made a home. It fried and shorted out a circuit sending the system into overdrive.

Check all you heads for a lit LED that would indicate that it has been activated. Try blowing through the vent openings to clear dust or bugs.

If the system does not take a reset command then call your monitoring station. they should be able to isolate the alarm from their end.

Good Luck

Change the batteries, and in the mean time put the alarm on the floor...heat rises up. Smoke alarms don't have huge life spans for a reason...:)

You may also check your kitcten ventillation.

A change in humidity and/or a draft that lets cooler outdoor air into the house can set off smoke detectors. Is there a draft somewhere near one of them? (A pull-down ladder from the ceiling? They sometimes have cracks that let in different air.)

Has anyone taken a particularly long and steamy shower? That can do it too.

If the cause is a change in humidity (I've had that in several houses I've lived in, so it isn't just some isolated case) close any doors that may be letting any different air in at the detectors.

YOU'RE SURE THERE'S NOT A WIRE BURNING INSIDE THE WALLS?

If you have the key, there is a "silence" button on the alarm panel. You likely have a faulty detector head.

It sounds like you need to replace the batteries in them.
