It depends on who is is better form on the day of the fight.
Think about this recently Earths Green Lantern and others recently imprisoned the Earth Prime Superboy in a red sun but it took several lanterns and two supermen to do this.
It is a battle I don't want to see nor one I think will happen again for some time.

If he ware to use his ring to create Krytonite he could. (actually happened years ago when someone took control of GL and fought Superman.) Otherwise it would be a matter of time. While GL could easily protect himself from Superman's attacks, his ring would eventually run out of power (24 hours) while Superman has unlimited stamina.

Yes, GL has kicked Superman's butt around before as Parallax. He created Kyptonite with his ring as proceeded to give a serious beat down.

I think that Hal Jordan could take Superman if he uses his head and can take him out before his ring has to be recharged. Hal is smarter than Superman.

Superman is supposed to be 'the man of steel.
The Green Lantern will end up with a lot of broken bones if he tries

Nah, doubt it. Though the Green Lantern has green energy, it's not the same thing as kryptonite...
