Cellulose is a complex substance found in the plants which animals eat, this substance needs a lenghty digestive process as it contain bacteria so the stomach of cow has three stomachs.

They have to break down the cellulose in the Hay/Grass they eat.
So each chamber of the 3 stomachs has a different effect on the break down and digestion of the fodder.

Good question, they only have to digest grass...we humans on the other hand put all sorts of stuff into our stomachs...maybe we should have more.

they eat grass which has sugar molecules that are very hard to digest such as cellulose. those can be digested more efficient with that.
