I had it done back in 2002. My back pain and posture was getting worse. I developed bruises on my shoulders from bra straps. And whenever I leaned over my chest hurt. At my biggest I was a 34/36 DD. After the surgery I ended up being a 34 B. Keep in mind I'm only 5'1" and 110 lbs. Even though the recovery was painful, and I have permanent scars and a slight loss of sensation, it was the best decision I ever made! My surgeon even made sure that I kept most of my mammary glands, in case I wanted to try to breast feed in the future (I don't have any kids yet). Right after the surgery, my breasts were really high and solid (by the way, I noticed a difference in size immediately). Then the swelling went down and they became more "normal". Now, 4 years later, they're a bit saggy, but still a 34 B. I can still wear certain shirts without a bra. And can now wear those nice bra tops (camisoles with a bra attached). Also, I don't have to go to Lane Bryant (a chain store at malls that carry larger women's clothing starting at size 16) anymore and be made fun of by the sales attendants. I recommend having the surgery done in a regular hospital, not one of those surgery centers where you have a procedure done...then leave a couple of hours later. Breast reduction is a serious procedure...anything could happen where you might need emergency care. And recovery during the first 24 hours is the most important for ANY surgery...any complications during the surgery or post-op can be handled immediately by a doctor, not by your mom or friend at home. Another great thing is that breast reductions are one of the few cosmetic procedures most insurance companies will cover...while breast enlargements are not (thank God!). My insurance paid for 80% of the costs (consultations, pre-op preparation, surgery, anesthesiologist, hospital room, post-op/recovery, follow-up visits for a year). I highly recommend a reduction to anyone! Hope the info helps. Go for it, you won't regret it!

I had this done 6 years ago and it was the BEST thing I ever did! I was a DDD plus. I found a very good plastic surgeon and he explained everything before hand and I got to see before and after pictures so I would know what the scarring would look like. I now have hardly any scarring. The scars are mainly under the breasts - where they fall naturally. I went down to a c and it is great. I have more sensations in my nipple area now that I did when they were huge. I am perky now compared to having them hanging to my waist. They are lifted by the way to answer your question. Any good surgeon will give you a complete consultation and ask to see pictures just so you get an idea. And remember most scars of any kind fade alot over time. And the surgery wasn't as painful as I had it built up in my mind. Good luck!

My best friend had a breast reduction in March. She is very small (5ft.120) and had DD breasts that were causing neck pain. After nursing 4 children, you can only imagine how saggy she was. Anyway, she looks and feels great now. Yes, there is a little scarring but not bad. She was surprised, though, at how long it took her to fully recuperate. It was at least 6 weeks, but she says, well worth it. Be sure to get several opinions and go with a doc. that has been hightly recommended. Good luck!

Definetely. I am 21 (almost 22) and I had my surgery 8 weeks ago. I had back pain, indents from my bra straps, interanl and external bruising under my ribcage from where my heavy breasts pushed the underwire underneath my ribs, and due to the limitations in clothing constantly looked fat. I absolutely love myself and my boobs now, I mean seriously I cant stop looking at them and loving the fact that they are now a big handful each, rather than 3 big handfuls each. Everyone tells me how skinny I look, mainly as I now have an extra inch of a waist. I even had someone ask me if I had implants as they are now so perky and firm. It is worth every dollar you spend on it and for me I realy did not suffer from much pain at all. Good luck ** I noticed that someone else mentioned you dont need to wear underwire, but NEVER wear a bra that does not have support. Before my surgery I wore a bra 24 hours a day and even now after my surgery I still wear one all day and night- you don't want your new smaller breasts to end up being saggy. Good surgeons will inform you to always wear a supportive bra.

How do you PERSONALLY deal with scarring? do you heal well? that is probably as much of an issue as the surgeon. Check him out well too. they should be able to provide you with examples of their work.
I've got three friends who I know have had reductions. ALL of them would do it again without hesitation. Two had minimal scarring the third wasn't the prettiest, but now she's healthier because she's ACTIVE.
it's a personal choice.
follow the aftercare to a T and good luck

I've seen it and it's not pretty. Sure it looks great as long as you are wearing a bra and a shirt but once the clothes come off, scars galore enough to scare Frankenstein. Saggy and old are better than scarred and unnatural.

I've known a few ladies that have had this done - they told me they felt much better, could breath easier, their back ache went away and one said she could sleep on her stomach for the first time. They were all very happy with the results; didn't discuss scarring, etc., with them, but I'm sure the MD's are very sensitive to this issue, discuss it with the doc.

My sister lost 7 pounds on EACH side! She said it was painful but not horrific. She says they gave a lift as well. But they left her a DD & then she had another kid so I think she's back to a K or close. She's my sister so I didn't get into the conversation.
Good luck with it.
