I think that the Orioles would not have competed in any division in the AL...the AL central was a better division overall than the east.
Until the Orioles begin to invest heavily in the RIGHT pitching, they will never compete. We can call this Cincinnati Reds syndrome.
Bringing in mediocre veteran pitchers will not solve their problems. Examples: Kris Benson for the Orioles, Eric Milton for the Reds, Jeff Weaver for the Angels
They need to continue to develop the young pitching they have (Bedard, Loewen, Cabrera) but they also need to pay a premium price (in trade, if need be) for a premium arm.
Cabrera, for example, has all of the physical tools in the world, but can the Orioles wait for him to develop? Maybe Cabrera, or perhaps Loewen, should be offered up as part of a deal for a major, front line starter.
At least one great starter, and a very good supporting cast--Bedard, Benson, Loewen, Penn??, could make a huge difference in the AL east.
P.S. -- They also need to add a little meat to the middle of their order. Tejada is fantastic...Gibbons isn't bad, but after that??? That said...I think Markakis will develop into a very good power hitter. He will be worth waiting for.
Just my two cents on the Orioles organization.

i'm sorry my pal. The O's look ok on paper. C-Hernandez is very well behind the plate. he's not any Veritek, Mauer, Molina or previous watered down Posada. i wager he's suitable 3 for the dept. 1st-Millar ought to furnish you with fifteen homers, yet he received't hit for common. he's tremendous for the cluhouse although. second-Roberts can be a star...if he can submit tremendous numbers each year. third-Mora is a sturdy performer each year. SS- Tejada has change into an underachiever over the most suitable 2 years. what's up with Miggy being Manny each year? Is he the 2d coming of Albert Belle or the 0.33 incarnation of Glenn Davis? i love the outfield. It jogs my memory of the days at the same time as they'd Steve Finley, Mike Devereaux and Brady Anderson accessible. Petterson, Stern and Payton will make some tremendous catches, yet none of them will shine on the plate. Huff will submit twenty-5 homers and so will Markakis. Markakis because the 2d coming of Babe Ruth? Is there a warm dogs eating contest when they play "Thank God i'm a rustic Boy" interior the midst of the seventh? The beginning pitching must be plus if all and various is nice interior the pinnacle and continues to be damage loose. Benson and Cabrera are basket situations. Leo may be able to get them in line at the same time as education the game to Bedard, Penn, and Loewen. Which Wright will look? The bullpen has continually been an O's trademark. That ingredient seems tremendous for the birds. The Orioles are searching at a nil.33 or fourth position end this year. Your proprietor sucks and the followers stopped arising from Washington because of him. at the same time as changed into the most suitable sellout that wasn't a majority of pink Sox or Yankee followers? Even the Nationals followers represented properly in allure city. there is not any interest in that city for baseball anymore. a minimum of you could sneak down into the first row interior the sixth inning.

The Os's can not compete on the fact that they lack pitching. Daniel Cabrera lack of control is stopping him from being a solid starter. Rodrigo Lopez, Bruce Chen, and Benson are all disappointments. The only guy in the rotation who has had a decent year is Bedard. But I do agree on the fact that playing in the AL east makes them look a lot worse. I think they are an 80 win team if they played in the NL east.

The Orioles have a few good players, but a BAD TEAM (and a terrible owner). They might have the beginnings of a good rotation. They have way too many "fill-in" type position players. Five of the eight regulars would probably be no better than platoon players with most teams.

The Orioles are 2 starting pitchers away from being top dog in the East. Pitching wins championships. I like their youth in the field and some of their strarting pitching. Your Owner needs to spend the 'Revenue Sharing" dollars to get some free agents instead of pocketing it.
