The Violent Femmes - "Blister in the Sun." One of the greatest power trios in modern rock. Gordon Gano, Victor DeLorenzo and Brian Ritchie have made some of the greatest angst-ridden music out there, and often only using acoustic instruments. One of the lesser-known facts is Gordon Gano is a committed Christian, and has often used his presence in the Femmes to state his spiritual beliefs. Songs like "Jesus Walking on the Water" and "Faith" are strong testaments to his personal beliefs. Oddly (to some, anyway) there are other songs that speak of sexual frustration and, as I stated before, angst. IMHO, Gordon Gano is the modern equivalent of the poet John Donne, who wrote both sacred odes to God and others that are rife with sexual imagery... both of these men were and are unafraid to present themselves as weak, fallen men who are only redeemable through their faith in Christ.
Additionally, Gordon Gano also was in a band called Mercy Seat, a Christian rock band that released one self-titled album on Slash records. Also, his brother Glenn Gano plays straight-ahead Christian music.
