It is the nature of any government to increase the power of that government while diminishing the power of the governed. 9/11 and the cowardice and ignorance, with regards to American history and the Constitution, of the American public offered a perfect opportunity for a government power grab.

In the past, the opposition party and/or true Conservatives would have fought many of the provisions of the act to the death. However, realizing that the American public has replaced reason with an addiction to fear, these gutless wonders abandoned their principles in favor of maintaining their political positions.

basically to give the govm't more of an upper hand than they already had...theres a claus in there that says anyone at any time can be arrested, detained without charges, or an attorney indefinitley. It was origionally brought about around 1984 when NWO became a big idea, alot of people won't be cool with all that, and they'll need the patriot act to allow them to pick up and detain any one who screws with the game plan...

The patriot act was put into "motion" so that we can make sure the suspected terrorists do not get to get to far into our "system". I know at a bank everyone that opens any kind of an account has to go through a check system to make sure that they are not on the suspected terrorists list. This has to do because of the patriot act.
