Generally, real estate agents are paid a commission from the sale of the property. There is usually a listing and buying agent but not always - one person could be both. The commission is usually 6% of the selling price of the property, 10% for rural undeveloped property. If there are two agents involved, the 6% is split 50-50 between the two and they usually have to share with the brokers they work for.
As a buyer, you do not pay the agent, the seller does. And yes, you tell the agent working with you what you want, what price range you're looking for and they should search for you. You can also go the Yahoo Real Estate and do search through the internet. There are also other internet real estate listings such as www.realtor.com. Good luck.

A real estate brokerage is the agency or office from which real estate agents and brokers work. Since working with a broker is a requirement in order to practice as a real estate agent, you will need to contact a broker before graduating from your training course.
