I always get small trails of wool when knitting, and bumps where I've put the new color in, which annoys me because I like doing multi-colored things like scarves. How do you change the color without getting abnormalities in the knitting?

And what sounds better - a block blue scarf with purple fringing, or with pink fringing? Or a different color? I'm trying to decide...

Cut the one color off at the end of the row, then attach the new color with a knot. If you will be sewing a seam there, just put the knot on the inside. If you aren't sewing a seam there, you can usually work it into the stitching on the next row, and put it in the back of the article you are making. Don't make the knot too big.

As for your scarf, ther are so many shades of one color, it is hard to say what color fringe to use. Pink just sounds better to me without seeing the shades. You could use alot of different colors for the fringe You could even use the blue for the fringe, or a variegated yarn of 2 or 3 colors. And, by the way, if you have joined another color while knitting the scarf, the fringe should cover up the knot when you attach the fringe to the edge.

You used to be able to pick up paperback books on "How to Knit" with alot of tips in it, and different pattern stitches. Good luck.

Always add your new color on the wrong side (ws) this will
prevent holes. I always tie it on the last stitch with at least an extra inch or two of wool and hold it with the next stitch while I continue knitting this way you don't have to weave it in later.
Don't forget to cut the orginal color and also hold it while you knit
to avoid weaving it in later. Yes, it is nice to add color to your design. Have fun with your knitting project.
