I think it was due to injuries. But I much rather say, it was the recognition of a true wrestler in the business, he was NOT getting after so many years. I think wrestlers like him should NOT be in wrestling like WWE, RAW, ECW etc... The script does not have much leeway for professionals in the show business. Like Ken Shamrock, Kurt Angle probably exhausted his welcome there. Out side of the ring, in the real world in true wrestling, these "superstars" will NOT last long enough in a true wrestling match. The ONLY true wrestler that had a good career was BOB BACKLUND. But when the story line had to change, look at the type of script was written for him. His script sucked! So, probably Kurt's script was heading that way and he refused to lose. He was a good proven champion until injuries caught up with him and finished him. He will be missed.

I got this from a pro wrestling site. The personal reasons he left were constant injuries that kept him from performing at his best. Part of the reason is also that he wants to compete in the MMA.

taken straight from sources
Angle was granted an early release from his WWE contract due to "personal issues".
just to add more
Kurt was released, Kurt's body, however, could no longer preform to the level that he envisioned for himself. (Kurt) was prepared to drive himself into an early grave simply to live with himself striving to be No. 1.
