then how come the farmers aren't zillionaires?

I'll tell you why and I know about farming. The government pays farmers to plow under crops and that's the truth. They also set the prices for wheat and cotton so low that it is more profitable for the farmers to plow it under than reap the crop. Instead of our crops, the government purchases cotton and wheat from other countries at prices higher than what they pay our farmers for their crops. Farmers aren't getting rich, they are going bankrupt, one at a time.

That's a good question, and I think because the farmers get paid only pennies on the dollar for what they grow. It's wrong but I don't see anyone trying to change that fact either. Keeping the little guys snowballed basically.

Most of the stuff that is not fit for human consumption is either sold or given away in the name of charity for handsome exchange rewards from the third world. The farmers in turn are told that it was all a waste.

No, of course the US doesn't grow enough to feed the world ...c'mon, there are more than 6 billion people in the world, even if the US build a fourth floor on all their farms there still wouldn't be enough land in the US to feed even a part of our planet's population.

low profit margin. And competitions from other places and amount themselves.

For example, when they have a great year in harvest, they rather bury the crops or destroy some of their crops so that the price remain high.

Because of the government doesn't protect it....therefore there is no reason to preserve that way of life for the benefit of mankind. Kinda sad I know.
