I was going to go into a game developing career, and I read a lot of interviews and books on the subject, plus I was a computer science major. You have to decide what role you want to play, specifically, in the development process. You are not going to get hired on initially as a designer. The designer is the guy in charge that is usually the head of the development team. He gets to do the fun stuff, and the other guys do the work to implement his "design" ideas. You will either start off in level design, 3d modeling, texture mapping, or programming. The classes you take will depend on which of these you decide to do. Another idea, if you are really serious about a game career, is to go to a game design school, like full sail. This won't guarantee you a game dev job, but it will definitely help you acquire the right training. Only your determination and desire will eventually land you a job.

It would be important to have a true passion for game design. I would recommend taking art and, if offered, graphic design or basic computer programming classes in high school. As for college, you can attend a university and major in computer programming or attend a vocational college and take classes designed specifically for individuals who hope to design games. Here are some schools that offer a bachelor's degree in game design/computer programming:

http://www.cogswell.edu/game.html

I hope I was able to help. Good luck!
