I'll be sitting here doing things on my computer and all of the sudden there will be the sound of a door opening through the speakers of my comp. sometime later it will shut and I was wondering what that all means what is going on?

Don't know if your kidding or not, but you must be signed on to your IM, instant messenger. When someone on your buddy list signs in, the door will open, when they sign out, the door closes. Hope this helps.

Do you happen to have Yahoo Messenger or AIM Messenger? If you do then that is what you are hearing. The sound of the door opening means that someone on your friend list just came online and the sound of the door closing means that someone on your friend list just got offline. If it really bothers you then just sign out of whichever messenger it is.

Did you log in to Yahoo Messenger? Or do you have set the option to auto login when Windows starts? Either way, Yahoo messenger is running in the background. When the messenger friends login to their Yahoo messenger, (or when they come on-line) it’ll get notified to you with that sound. If it’s like a door is opening, which means the friend came on-line. If a door is closing, a friend went off-line or invincible mode. To see who came and went, take a quick look at the bottom right corner of the desktop when you here the sound. It’ll display the name of your fiend who logged in or logged out.

Do you have some kind of instant messenger open, like AOL or Yahoo! messengers? That is probably what you're hearing.

somebody else must be using AIM , it has a door opening sound when someone signs on and shutting sounds when someone signs off

That is yahoo messenger. It happens when you are logged in and when your friends either log-in or log-out. You will hear it sound like its opening when they log-in and closing when they log off.

it means i have yahoo messenger running in the background.someone on my friends list either came online or went off line...

That sound is when someone on your messenger enters or leaves messenger
