It will give you the number of planes in the air at any time and will actually show you where a plane is at. All you have to do is put in the airline and the flight # and the website will actually show you how far the plane is from its destination, how much further it has to go, the air speed and all sorts of neat information.

Check with the FAA website or write their PR department. As a hint (I am former USAF), about 20 years ago, there were only 100-120 commerical aircraft in the entire USA at any one time, including peak travel hours.
Private numbers will be a bit harder to nail down as some private flights are like cropdusters who don't necessarily fly with flight plans (or small craft rural short hops), which is what FCC would use to get up a tally.

Download Active Sky. I fly with a virtual airline and on flight simulator and I have it and it shows every plane that is in the sky live.

Buy five space shuttles.
Let your friends command each of them.
At any given time five pictures of earth from equally spaced locations would help.
Good luck.

Why don't you call the FBI and ask? Be sure to leave your name, address, a daytime phone number and your visa registration number. I promise they'll get back to you promptly.
