And I'm scared for the fish be/c the other day he jumped out the of tank (the lid is broke) and we don't know how lone he was out of water. I actually thought he was dead but put in the tank any way and later looked and you could tell he was breathing. I also wanted to know how much should he be feed a day? Thanks soooo much!!!

Never clean the whole tank. You should be changing no more then 30% of the water every week with aged tap water (24 hrs). Buy a gravel vacuum that will remove the large bits of debris while pulling out some of the water. Feeding too much will kill him very quickly. The fish should always be a bit hungry. Reduce the feeding to half of what you have been giving him, and feed him only every other day for a couple of weeks while the regular water changes clear out the tank.

you don't have to take all the water out of the tank just do a 50-75% water change he will be fine in there may be a little stressed but he will be ok. Feeding if you have oscar pellets that is good only give him what he can eat in three mins. NEVER over feed they also eat lettuce, peas, carrots blood worms, earth worms, frozen shrimp (thawed out of course) green beans,broccli,etc... DO NOT feed them feeder fish unless you raise the feeders your self or qaurentine them for at least a month. How big is the tank remember they can reach sizes between 12-16 inches so at least a 55 gallon tank is required for 1 Oscar with a very good filtration system good luck on your new Oscar you will fine that they are fun and pleasant to have

Yes, you can take your oscar out of his aquarium without stressing him out too much! I've had an oscar for over two years now. I put him in a clean bucket with dechloronated tempurature adjusted water until I've fully cleaned ou the tank. Otherwise, if you leave it in there while cleaning out a really dirty tank, it will suffer by having to breath in the stuff that gets blown around as you siphon it. Just make sure the water you put in the bucket is dechloronated and the same tempurature as the water it's coming from so as to not shock it. And likewise when you fill the tank back up with water.

Cleaning of the Tank - Take a clean bucket and rinse with water (no soaps or detergents) and take some water from the tank and fill the bucket and drop the fish in it, cover with a net so that fish can not jump out.
Empty the tank (remember u should have enough stored water to fill the tank (kept for a week or so) and all its contents and clean with aquarium salt or rock salt and re-set the aquarium. Remember only that much food is given that the fish finish in 5 minutes, "Hungary fish - Healthy fish" but don't starve them. Good Luck

Ummm yea dont listen to the IDIOT above me RE the toilet... jackass...

Anyways, my Oscar has also jumped out before, they are clever fish and get bored. I would not remove him for the cleaning - it will only stress him out more and they are sensetive fish.

There are gravel cleaners, the kind with a large tube you siphon water and muck into a bucket - they tend to work well, but by far the best is one called the Python No Spill Clean and Fill - it uses faucet pressure to siphon water and is very effective.

I only feed my oscar a few pellets a day - they do not have a growth hormone to tell them when to stop growing and will get larger quickly - my 10" Oscar is almost outgrowing his 55 gallon tank, so I have to ease up on his food intake.

A rule of thumb, do not feed him more than he can eat in 3 minutes. Also, get a plecostemus, they are great companions for oscars and usually clean up their messes!

A tank is a tank whilst it extremely is empty. as long as you do no longer positioned saltwater interior the tank with your oscar, he could desire to be effective. There are diffused adjustments between clean and saltwater tanks. some saltwater tanks are drilled, meaning that they have holes drilled interior the backside of the tank that enable you to place in a drain pipe and a return pipe for moist/dry, canister, or different varieties of exterior filtration units. If the tank is drilled, you will could desire to purchase such kit. If the tank isn't drilled, you are able to desire to be waiting to apply usual freshwater kit. in no way attempt to drill a tank by your self! be sure you get all the specs on the tank earlier you purchase. you ought to use a drilled tank for freshwater, yet be arranged to purchase the extra kit. it extremely isn't any longer al a undesirable deal inspite of the incontrovertible fact that. utilising a extensive sump with the tank in a clean water application could enable you to maintain extra fish than you generally could desire to with a cling-off-the-back clear out by somewhat increasing the known quantity of water that flows interior the path of the tank. sturdy success!

Basic aquarium maintenance consists of removing 1/3 of the water once a week, replacing this volume with fresh water with the chemicals removed (products available in pet stores.

Leave the fish in the tank. How much you feed depends on the size of the tank and the size of the fish.

Clean filter once a week.

You could just get those sifels that they sell in the fish department and then you dont have to remove the fish.

you can siphon the tank and leave the oscar in it while you clean
or you can get a big bucket (clean w/o soap) to put him in
