I have a very new dell xps 200. and it runs great 99% of the time. But every now and then it will freeze up and i will have to re-set it in order to get it to run right. I do regular virus scans and i defrag and delete old internet files, i also run scans to see if there are any problums, but it shows everything is fine. What are some ressons that this would happen to my computer? And what can i do about it in the future? Also is this a common thing to happen to computers or is this a bad sign of a breakdown in progress?

Nathan's right about the possible startup files.

There are a few that xp NEEDS at startup. If it freezes after being on a while ... hmm.

In the days when I had a Mac, an app named _Conflict Catcher_ found and fixed probs.

On the Windows platform, System Mechanic might fill the bill.

Are all the fans turning? Are you overclocking the processor? If you are or ar not, I suspect that the processor is overheating and is shutting itself down. Call Dell.

It means that something is not right. Causes other than viruses/spyware include overheating, memory probs, disk retries, bizarre mobo problems. If it's under warrantee, you should probably get it looked at.
