I went to K-Mart today and lo and behold there was an electronic life sized Santa Claus dancing away and ho-ho-ho'ing. There were even pink xmas trees on display. Bloody rediculous. I didn't exactly answer your question - sorry.

Money has replaced Christ?

As some one has already said, this festival really has nothing to do with Christ! That part of 'Christmas was just made up as a date to celebrate his birth!
The 'real' part (solice) was also a load of cra* !
But no real harm in any of it its still enjoyed by many millions, and if you have plenty of spare cash spend it, if not don't get involved with all the commercial stuff, the choice is yours! Merry Xmas??

Short answer? There's money to be made. That's why stores are in business. They are not in the religion business. It's up to Christians to remember to keep Christ in Christmas, not businesses. A Christian does not require his or her society to confirm faith. The early Church did quite well at remembering Christ with no help from its surrounding community and, in fact, rather a lot of persecution. Keep the faith, yes, but don't expect if of others.

Just because the shops are displaying things, doesn't mean you have to buy them! I for one am grateful because I am shortly going to spend 2 weeks in England and then I have to get back to South Korea, where Christmas is not such a big deal, and so this is my opportunity to get goodies in advance. Sure, it's commercialism, and sure, nobody really knows when Jesus was really born, and sure, he did not tell us to celebrate his birthday in the Bible, but it's my favourite time of year, for religious and festive reasons too.

Yes Ive noticed, and for the reason of commercialism I hate Christmas in every single way possible! From the nasty fake Christmas songs you hear in all the shops, TV and radio to all the crappy shiny stuff hanging around, its just tacky.

Don't worry about it ! Jesus lives ! You might not find Jesus as the focus in stores or businesses during that materialistic business event, thats what businesses do, just try to make more money or get ahead of competition from other businesses. Jesus lives despite that and everything else. The crucifiction didn't stop him or end him, he came back to life; tough Roman Empire rule, and brutal Communist oppression couldn't stop him either, the more they try, the more he lives and ultimately making a comeback ! "Christmas" shopping business is just business being business, another endeavour to enhance prosperity. Don't worry about it. Jesus said something like render that which is Caesar's, to Caesar, and that which is God's, to God. Let business do its business in stores, and let your spirit be spiritual, forgiving, loving, caring, not be intimidated or polluted by such worries.

You're about six weeks late in noticing that - Harrods caused a fuss at the beginning of August because they'd opened their Christmas department!

the festival of christmas has always been a commercial affair. it's up to the individual christian to put the christ in their christmas.perhaps only buying goods that give to charity is a good start?

the shops put out christmas goods out so early because over 75 % of all goods bought this early are used before christmas so therefore have to be bought again .. this maximises profits .. you will also find that the warehouses of most supermarkets will also have in them easter egg ready to put out for january .. hope this helps

And more importantly aren't they forgetting the Hall in Halloween and the Thanks in Thanksgiving. Good lord folks..we are still in september. This kind of stuff offends me, not because of the commercialism but because its skipping over days. It is nowhere near christmas. They need to put out pumpkins and candy. Crazy.
