You can find the definition for RAM at Wikipedia or some other place by Google searching for it.

Windows defines 'system RAM' as the amount of physical memory installed on your computer, MINUS memory that is used by some device when the computer starts up.
An example of this would be if you have 256 megabytes of installed physical memory, and you're using a built-in video card on your computer's motherboard. Computer motherboards with built-in video hardware automatically take a certain amount of memory away from the installed memory for it's own use. If your built-in video card takes away, say, 32 megabytes from installed physical memory, Windows will say that you have 224 megabytes of 'System Memory.' Plug-in video cards don't take memory away from your installed memory, so in that case, Windows would say that you have 256 megabytes of System Memory.

Software manufacturers list memory requirements by how much INSTALLED memory you have, because they are lazy and stupid. That method of listing required memory is just plain vague and ridiculous. A more accurate method would be to list the maximum amount of Windows System Memory that the program uses.
If a program specifies 256 megabytes of INSTALLED memory, and you have, for example, 224 megabytes of System Memory, you can still run the program. This is because the actual amount of memory the program uses is unknown (but lower than 256 megabytes) and Windows incorporates a system called Virtual Memory. I don't want to explain Virtual Memory, so just Google search for an explaination.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. RAM is how much memory can be stored for the task being done at the current moment in time [including foreground and background programs]. When you run out, it means your computer is already working at it's max.
You cannot run a program if you do not have enough.

think of it like a desk, how much Ram u have is how big ur desk is. Every u run a program, like u open a book on the desk, n when ur run out of space, ur comp slow down. HOwever window has fake Ram, it's hard disk space that window uses as RAM, pagefile. It's in cp>system>advance>performance.
Everytime ur comp turn off, all memory on RAM are delete
