My husband and I have a large 2 bedroom apartment in Hoboken (near NYC). He has had his housekeeper for years, and she has been cleaning our current apartment for 3 years before I moved in. We pay her $100 per week - she comes once a week and does a fabulous job. Since we pay her a lot already, we decided that we wouldn't raise her pay (and she hasn't asked for a raise either) and instead just give her a bigger bonus. There really isn't that much more work for her to do since I have moved in - I do quite a bit of the day-to-day cleaning myself.

Does this sound okay, or should we consider giving her a raise, perhaps next year? How much of a bonus should we give? We were thinking about doubling what is usually given, or perhaps give her a couple of extra bonuses throughout the year.

I clean houses a couple days a week, and I would never expect to get more because of another person moving in, especially a woman! But, it is a nice thought, and I think it would make her happy to get more bonuses throughout the year, like a great little surprise here and there!

I'm a house cleaner as well, I live in California and I charge 20. the first hour and $10. per hour after the first hour. I have regulars that I do once a week and get $50. Once a month $75. May be I should start charging more, I wouldn't ask for a raise if I were getting $100. per week. I also do a fabulous job. Why do you want to give her more money, maybe for Christmas a bonus is nice but not because you pay her enough already.

A $100 for one days pay sounds pretty generous to me, but if that is what your husband was paying her before you came along, then a small raise would be nice, maybe 15 or 20 and still give a bonus at least at Christmas.

Hmm.
It sounds like she is somewhat close to you b/c she has been around for a while... and since she isn't actually doing more work than before, and she is happy and hasn't even mentioned it, than it sounds pretty reasonable so far...
I think that you should giver her a couple of extra bonuses throughout the year, That will put a smile on her face everytime.

But that's just my opinion.

$100 for 1 day is pretty good money. If it were me, I would just give a holiday bonus once a year.

i would keep her pay as it is and increase her vacation time or several times a year give her a bonus, or give her a paid day off once in awhile
bonus could be Easter, with a day off,and pay thanksgiving and Christmas and on her birthday

You basically answered your own question your idea is a great one seeing she isn't asking for anything she's probably happy that your doing most of the work now that's very kind of you to do 4 her. God Bless U & Good Luck
