i have two huge trees in my yard. the big branches are being killed and they are falling off. i notice alot of sawdust looking wood on the ground underneath the trees and big ants crawling up the trees. my brother said the ants are eating it and will eventually kill my trees.
my question is.....is there anything i can do to kill the ants on my own? (with something i can buy at the store?)
thank you very much!

They probably are carpenter ants (if it was termites the carpenter ant killer would kill them too). Go to a L&G center and get some carpenter ant killer. Bonide has this in a dust or concentrate. Just follow the instruction on the duster or bottle.

If they are too high to safely spray or dust get a professional. It's not a good idea to spray poison over you head and have the residue come down on you.

The ants could be eating the termites that are killing your trees. You can purchase Termite spray from the hardware store, but you will need to wear protective clothing. The termite spray will kill the ants too.

there is bug spray and poison that kills ants. You can pour boiling water on their holes, i know people who got rid of ants this way.

Do you believe everything your brother says?

I know this is a rotten answer, but it is probably a rotten tree.
