He had a serios crash, that almost killed him, but according to sources from the hospital, he is out of Intensive Care and is recovering.

I'm guessing this will set back the 9th series of Top Gear by at least a month.
But, thankfully, he should be fine. There may be some brain injuries, but because safety rules were obeyed, I don't think they are that serious.

Probably brain injuries like the ones suffered by Brazilian driver Luciano Burti at Spa, in 2001, after crashing before Blanchimont, one of the fastest turns in F1. He is still racing, but not in F1.

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond suffered a "significant brain injury" when he crashed a high-speed car, a hospital source has said.

But doctors at Leeds General Infirmary, where the 36-year-old is in a serious but stable condition, say they are "reasonably optimistic" he will make a good recovery.

Hammond was travelling at about 300mph when the Vampire jet-powered dragster he was driving overturned yesterday.

The best place I have found to check up on his progress is, believe it or not, Wikipedia!

Oh, and apparantly he could not have been trying for the Land Speed Record because there was no official timekeeper there!

I just hope they do not use the crash as an excuse to cancel Top Gear!

He is getting there, but there is a slight worry about long term effects of his injury.
