I don't know how the CIA defines "asset" but how convenient it is that he made the statement he did.

If the pope can manage to provoke a reaction from 1 Muslim anywhere in the world against the catholic population based upon religion it will give credence to the race war that is happening It will give the modern crusade the ability to come out into the open as to it's nature while appearing the Muslims or Arabs themselves started a race war.

It may force the unification (to a small or large extent) of the Protestants back into the fold of the papacy that we fought so hard to get away from .....how convenient that war and a common enemy tend to do that.

In years past, the Vatican maintained a good intelligence group of its own, and probably still does, in addition to its diplomats. As a tiny but sovereign state, they are beholden to no one, but may well "swap notes" with the U.S. intelligence agencies and those of other nations as they see fit.
