The sitting Governor, Gray Davis, was a political hack who was selling out the state of California to the energy companies (and anyone else who had a dollar for the democrats) at the expense of the residents / tax payers. He was a far left liberal democrat and spend 70% more money than the state brought in.
Arnold talked a good talk and we might have voted a yellow Labrador retriever to the governors seat if he was fiscally conservative.
Bottom line, the voters elected him.
