I have a xtodvd program and when I insert the cd it does nothing, also when I am trying to reproduce a dvd WMP says that I need a dvd decoder, does´t that come with the player?

my bad I do have a dvd-rw, here is the q again:

you must have a DVD buner beacuse a dvd is a multylaerd disc a cd is single layerd

first off: you can't use a CD to play or record DVDs, for the same reason you can't use an 18 wheel truck to race Formula 1 races with: the techniques used are simply too different.
As far as playing back is concerned: use VLC (www.videolan.org), a free player, to play DVDs on your PC. CD and DVD drives hardly ever come with playback software.

What you need is a DVD-R or a DVD-RW compliant program and not to mention a DVD drive on your computer.

CD-RW is different than a DVD-RW.

coz u need a dvd-rw to record a dvd!

u need a dvd writer cd file system is diffrent from dvd.

CD-RW can only burn CDs, not DVD. You have to have a DVD burner for DVDs. (DVD burners are backwards compatible and can burn CDs also.)
