My husband thinks that I have a problem drinking too much water. I drink water or other liquids pretty much all day long. I don't have diabetes (it runs in my family so I get check regularly). I eat a balanced diet and exercise. I just feel like I'm thirsty all the time. If I am walking around for more than half an hour, I just feel like I'm dying of thirst and I feel really lightheaded and start to get a headache, after about half an hour without a drink.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could something be wrong with me? I've experienced this pretty much all my life.

I drink well more than 8 glasses of water a day. Probably closer to twice that amount. I don't have diabetes and I'm otherwise healthy. (I go to the doctor regularly, and nothing's wrong.)

maybe you lack electrolytes. Drink smart water or gatorade. See if that helps.

Water poisoning is a real, though very rare, risk. This occurs when someone drinks very very large amounts of water without restoring eloctrolytes such as sodium and potassium. I'm under the impression that it is pretty difficult to unintentionally overdose on water. However, you can help balance your electrolytes by drinking sports drinks after exercise, or (preferably IMO) eating a salty snack such as a pretzels, or high in potassium such as bananas along with water.

Being lightheaded after only a half hour of not drinking is not normal, however, and I would go to the doctor if I were you.

There is such a thing as too much water, sadly, it can flood your organs.

I'm not an expert in some areas of health issues, and unlike some people on Y Answers, I won't pretend to be. Check with your doctor, it won't hurt to ask and there is no reason to continue being in that state. You could probably call your doctor's assistant if you feel uncomfortable going in without a probable reason. Leave a message with this concern and they should call you back and tell you if you should worry about it or not.

You said diabetes runs in your family so it's good that you get regular checkups and I'm assuming this also means regular fasting blood sugars! Maybe it's time to start monitoring your sugar on a more regular basis, ask the Doctor to give you a prescription for a glucose monitor, then you could start keeping a log! Excessive thirst is one of the signs of diabetes. Good Luck!

You could be consuming a lot af anti-water. See this on site below. If all you ate for breakkfast and lunch was watermelon I bet you would not need to drink anything all day and not feel thirsty. But eat dry french fries and anti-water-- well that's a different story. The healthiest foods are high water content foods like fruits and vegetables not bread, french fries, pasta, donuts and meat.

Really weird answer because there should have been other symptoms by now but excessive thirst is a symptom of internal bleeding. How much are you drinking each day? There is never any harm in asking your doctor about this.

This may sound odd, but...next time you're thirsty, try eating a banana instead. If your thirst goes away; you need to go see an Endocrinologist for a Diabetes screening. If not; then you're simply 1 thirsty girl!

no there is nothing wrong with you. I drink water every single day and they say you are supposed to drink at least 8 glasses a day. I could be that whatever you are eating contains something that might make you thirstier then you already are.

Well, drinking a lot of fluids has never been bad, or at least not that I've ever heard of, but the lightheadedness isn't good, I'd suggest asking a doctor about it
