Are you likely to get any diseases? How badly does it affect your skin? Is there a chance of pain after the tattoo has been put on a long time ago?

If you go to a reputable place you don't need to worry about getting any diseases. The skin takes about 2-3 weeks to completely heal but everyone is different. I think it also depends on what part of your body you get the tattoo.

I personally do not have a tattoo nor do I want one but I did go with my fiance` recently when he got one. The guy who did his actually sent him to a shop to pick up his own needles. He furnished the ink but he poured it from the bottles into little caps and then disposed of the left over ink and caps. South Carolina has only recently allowed tattooing. They outlawed it years ago because of hepatitis. There are risks involved with getting a tattoo. Hepatitis and HIV to name a few. Unless you buy the needles yourself & ink, you never know. The operator should also wear latex gloves. Some people do regret getting a tat. Think long and hard about what you want because it is something you are going to have for the rest of your life. Make sure it isn't something that would cause you embarrassment somewhere down the road. My fiance` got this recent tattoo to cover one up from his teen years that he was embarrassed by. The amount of pain depends on where you get the tattoo. Some areas are more sensitive than others. It makes your skin peel for a while too. Some people say it feels like a bad sunburn.

1) Diseases. The tattoo itself when fresh can get infected. The needles used to put the tattoo ink in can cause hepatitis if not properly cleaned and I presume any other communicable disease can be spread this way too (like HIV).

2) It makes the skin swell when the tattoo is new, and it hurts some, but once its healed there are no effects on the skin really.

I've never heard of anyone's old tattoo causing them pain. Its ink inserted under the skin by use of needles. Once the tattoo is done if you are not allergic to the inks there's really nothign to cause pain after the skin heals.

You should think hard, because once tattooed, its not easy to remove (requires an expensive lasering and it may not remove the entire tattoo).

get a tiny accent thing, do your home work know you can put it some where , where you can have it both ways covered up and exposed by what you wear. mostly a tatoo is a dated thing what you have on your body may not be what you want later. so pick beautiful fairy butterfly with great colors but very small and well placed to only see the illusion of is that an eye catcher and not some big thing that could getinfected , small is great , if you don't like the burn of the neddle pain small will be the way to go and i took ice with me to feel better. there no related pain in the future from a tatoo. i've never seen a tatoo cause problems with the skin, but don't come out of the woodwork and say ya i'm the paste face with the red hair. is you are normal and your skins normal you'll wear it to your grave.

Well, some of these answers are informative, some are just stupid, like any other life decision, why not educate yourself on such matters. Find a couple of tattoo parlours in your area and ask them if they have state certification. If not, then don't get one there. Any place that is licensed, will either break needles off after each tattoo. Or have a fresh well of ink for every tattoo. Of course it hurts, yes there is swelling, but only for a couple of hours atfer it is done. Some A&D Diaper rash ointment is the best for keeping your tattoo soft so that when a scab forms, it will be soft for sloughing off of your skin, not dry. As for dufus and his not hiring people with tattoos, well all I can say is the best tattoo is a hidden one, if you are serious and you have to be, this is going to be on you for the rest of your life. Then get one in a place that only you know of. It keeps the radicals off of your back but not your tat. Oh yeah, the pain goes away after about 2 days but that only depends on where you get it, if it is in a place where you might agitate it. Just remember, in the Immortal words of Henry Rollins, KISS FOREVER on your chest when your 50 just might not be what you want to see every morning! Get something of importance that means something to you! Good Luck, And God Bless!

First symptom is finding yourself in a tattoo parlor after having been drinking adult beverages. Chances of hepatitis, AIDS, and other infections exist. Pain after a long time is usually only social or in the process of attempts at tattoo removal.

Just find a clean, reputable place if you do get one. There are horror stories of unclean equipment and ink, causing Hepatitis B/C and HIV. If you find a clean place that cleans their equipment properly and handles their ink correctly (i.e. not just dumping the ink they use on you back in with the rest of the ink after use) then it should be okay. My step dad was a tattoo artist and I never saw anyone get sick or have serious pain afterwards. With that said, I'd never get a tattoo. Too many people regret it later in life.

Tattoo's are forever and People will judge you. You might have a fever or a little swelling where the tattoo is placed. If you are to do one make sure you have a professional do it with a new needle and very clean environment.Good luck and God Bless..

Hi, my name is HIV and I'm here to introduce you to my friends, Hepatitis A, B and C! Not to mention Syphilis, Gonorrhea and a host of other blood-borne diseases!!!!
MMMMMM, we are the GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING!!!
There's no guarantee that a needle is "clean" when you get a tattoo--salons are NOT FDA regulated, ya know!
And think of this...I'm the person who, when you are 30 and really really need the job that will pay the rent/mortgage, give you health coverage for your kids/family, and pay the car payment...I'm that person who WILL NOT HIRE YOU when I see the stupid-a** tat you got when you were....however old you are now.
