YES, deciding to learn to play guitar is the greatest decision Ive ever made. It will be hard at first and your fingers will hurt really bad but if you keep on it, you ll get past that. Playing the guitar or any instrument will bring you great joy. Lessons would be best in person. but if you really had to use the internet just google guitar lessons, Ive seen some pretty good beginner lessons out there.

It is not hard to learn to play, having the willpower to stay with it is the hard part. Don't start with punk or hard rock. Start with folk music, it comes easier, then go to the other type. Get as good of instrument as you can, a flat top with nylon strings is good to learn on, and easier on your fingers. As for lessons, just go to your browser and type in guitar lessons. There must be a hundred sites that offer free lessons. You should also go to your local music store and buy a good chord chart, and maybe a beginners lesson book. Sometimes it is better to leave all this technology alone and go somewhere quiet to practice. The main thing is don't give up. I played the trumpet from the age of 9 until was out of school, and the guitar since I was 13. I still play a little guitar but can't blow a note on my trumpet. I am 56 and it saddens me that I didn't keep it up. Read this and maybe you will understand life and where it will take you. Good luck.http://quotations.about.com/cs/poemlyrics/a/Road_Not_Taken.htm

For lessons, it would be better to have a live teacher, rather than the internet. That way, you have instant feedback on your ability and progress, and the lessons would be tailored to you and your needs.

As for which guitar to get, it's a very personal thing. Ask the local music shops and also check musiciansfriend.com, music123.com, and americanmusical.com. Not only do these websites have a large selection of instruments and competitive prices, but often times, customers will write their own reviews of the various products. That way you can make an informed decision.

Either way, for your first guitar, you should go to the shops and handle the instruments to find what is comfortable for you, and which one "speaks" to you. Also find out about warranties and repair costs, as well as the overall demeanor of the retailer, as these should all be factored into the decision-making process.

Playing any instrument is fun, exciting, therapeutic, and sometimes it's outright frustrating, to be honest. But that's all part of the adventure- just enjoy the ride. Good luck, and happy birthday!

My brother plays guitar and he says its pretty awesome. Maybe you'll experience the exhileration he does.

Probably the bass guitar to work with the acoustics alone.
Don't go with online lessons. If you have any friends who play guitar, ask them for some. If that doesn't work, try consulting a band instructor.

It really depends on the sound you want as far as what brand to buy. I have a fender strat and I have been playing for years. I enjoy all types of music and I am glad that I took the time to learn and play. I hope this helps. Happy Birthday.

Guitar = life.

Depends on the price range. Fender Strat or an Epiphone Les Paul is good.
