don't know about astoria, but seaside has the ebb tide inn and it is cute AND affordable. gas fireplace and ocean view in every room.
astoria does have the best restaraunt on the coast: the Pig 'n' Pancake. eat and enjoy!

We stayed at the Lamplighter Motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, about the same as you would expect from a Motel 6. Nothing special, but definitely affordable.

Also try to do SmartSearch, which will give you recommendation and click on individual buttons to perform search to compare rates. I like that place... You dont have to go to individual sites and type the same information again and again.. here once you enter you are done to compare....
