No. Despite that unfortunate incident in the Finals, Zidane will always be remembered as an outstanding athlete and legendary footballer who helped his team win the cup in 1998. He will leave a legacy of greatness and will be sorely missed not only by the French people but also by the true lovers of football the world over.
He is a man of principle and he walked away from the game standing up for what he believed in, that no one, not even a high-caliber Italian soccer player such as Materazzi, has the right to insult his beloved sister and get away with it. Zidane gave honor to his country in 1998. I think it is a noble reaction on his part to protect his sister's honor this time around.

To be honest I am French and I was in France when i watch that game. Yes Zidane did give a headbutt. But we french people thought it was racism because countries like france, spain, and italy are really racist to North African people. Such as Algerian people. Zidane is Algerian but that wasnt the case, Zidane was Algerian and the best player in the World Cup 2006 even though he gave headbutt. No Zidane will be remember as pele, ronaldo, and otehrs. Zidane has done other bad things then headbutting. SO no people in general who know Zidane and who have seen him progressed well in soccer wont think of him like that as a headbutter except for Matterazzi probably.

ok Zidane is not a headbutting genious and plus he has only headbutted 1 person in his career, Figo headbutted someone during one of the Portugal games and nobody has judged him as much as Zidane. I think that is just stupid, i'm getting really tired of hearing this over and over again. Just stop talking about it, it's been over for let's see.....2 MONTHS!!!

Well depends... If you actually know something about football then you'd respect Zinedine Zidane as a pioneer to football. Everything i think of him i picture him doing his signature spin move and his bald head:D and also i don't think its fair that Zidane cant walk away from this without being reminded of this incident... the worst act during World Cup 06 was the act of Danielle De Rossi elbowing McBride.

"True" football fans will NOT remember Zidane as a headbutting "genious". What kind of question is that?

Zindane' head helped power France to the World Cup in 1998. I saw that match and not even Pele could ever pull off such a feat. I was speechless....
Zindane will still be remembered for those 2 headers instead of the one he gave to the Italian who taunted him. If that was you, do you think you would have walked away?

No. But it may have tarnished his image as that was his final game. But people will remember him winning the WC for France in 98 and basically taking an old France team to even QUALIFY for this event and then taking them to the finals.

Of course not. That didn't have any impact on how I see Zidane. We all make mistakes, but they still cannot take away talent.
