If I have it boot from C: then it won't boot. Nedds the disk? Maybe the way I formatted my drive?

Somehow an active system partition with a valid mbr was not created. Did you do something strange, like image or restore the drive from another volume? Did you have a strange operating system loaded like linux or Me before your installed xp? Did you add and then remove physical hard drives from the computer that were previously used as boot up devices? Did it ever boot from that hard drive or is this something new? I cannot read your mind.

Did you try to install the XP again prior to format your drive?

I need more information to give you a precise answer, but sounds to me like you need to reformat your drive and put windows on again.

Is it a bootlegged version? If it is not a ligit bought version it might do that
