Wel it hink that you are right about this tension. Every one is racist to a point but this is called dislike not racist. But people that openly say that they are racist really are ignorant. Ignorance is the only reason that people are racist. ooooh and tension exist because the retaded racist start it..

Racial tension on its most superficial, understandable form, starts with skin-color. At first glance, everyone notices physical features. The next thing that pokes out are what they wear and their body language. This materialist approach to racism begins when you compare a persons' physical appearance to ones own physical appearance. The observer would always look at other people from their own standards and identify people that belong in their subculture (which in this case is racial subcultures). In the observers
mind, they use what they perceive as normal and put down other people who dress differently or act differently.
Non-materialist approach to racism is more or less the same - using the observers' own non-materialist ideas to judge other people. Examples would be difference in values, the social-interaction within a race compared to other races, their philosophy as a person, what they deem normal public social behavior and so on.
These two ways of understanding racial tension is not just for racial issues....it can be the issue between income classes, sexual preference, roles of men and women in different cultures, political affiliation and so on.
To say that everyone is racist and prejudice to some degree is to some degree true. Going outside of the racial issue, you already have a preference to what gender you would date, what food you would eat if you had a choice between, say, an American meal and some cannibal village meal. It is heavily influenced by how someone is brought up and the amount of exposure for other cultures. However, when you apply stereotypes, you must be careful not to look just at someones skin color. The skin color may be an indication most of the time for what race someone belongs to but one should identify other things before applying a stereotype - things like how long their family lived in a certain environment, their income etc etc.
Stereotypes I believe - As I said, I dont belileve in stereptyping people based on just their skin color as many times, I have been proven wrong. That means, when I do stereotype, the terms are very exact. For example, I think kids that are born in middle to high income family, who has everything done for them by servants and gets whatever they want will become spoiled children who are unresponsible. I did not say, rich white kids are spoiled.
What do I think we can do to relieve racial tension. The simplest thing to do is observe. Observe what other races/subcultures do and then compare it to your own culture. Understand that what one culture equates as good does not translate the same way to other cultures. (note: for some cases, this may not always be true...if some thought-up village thought that everytime lightning struck meant the gods want them to stab themselves, then it is not just a culture thing.... physical consequences should be a factor). However, I think racial tensions begin when cultures are mingled and people try to impose their own culture onto other people. Sometimes, this is inevitable as US is a predominately Christian populated nation yet there are conflicts on the political level to keep the nation religion free. So idealistically, if everyone can understand everyone is different and your own ways (most of the time) are not superior to others, then that is a start to relieving racial tension.
and yes, the first few answers to any posted questions are people wanting 2 pts. Hows that stereotype for you.

I agree with you, I believe that everyone has a prejudice against at least one race and if you can find dislike for one group of people, finding fault with another is not that hard to believe.
Here's a stereotype example for you, everyone believes the Confederated flag means to Southerners wanting slavery back or something stupid like that (I'm Southern so I don't know what Northerners think about it) We fly a Confederated flag out of Southern pride and if we are prejudice against anyone it's the Northerners, we are over it, been over it. We are just proud not to be a Yankee, if you are not southern then you can't understand it but that is the truth, it's Southern Pride and not anything to do with slavery.

Tension is usually a physical property or measurement, in this case applied to social circumstances to describe the feeling of discord between parties.
Funny thing about tension is that it requires something to create it. An opposing force, for instance. In order for tension to be a problem it has to be complex. For instance tension experienced by standing for a long time can be solved by sitting down or getting a massage - easy. Tension caused by a car accident that fractures your vertibrae and damaged nerve impulses requires complex medical proceedures to correct - hard.
In terms of race, tension is only an issue when we allow ourselves to be that insular, because really it has a very simple solution. In the past, racial tension requires more complex solutions, but as society found, there is always a solution to solving tension because of the properties of tension itself.
For instance, racial tension in the workplace can be solved by educating employees about how trivial it is to value a worker based on their appearance than by the contributions they make to the organisation.
Racial tension on a larger scale, as in the example of Iraq, often involves death, continued oppression, and malformed policies that affect large numbers of people. In these cases you cannot solve racial tension without first achieving peace between opposing factions. Only when there is peace is room to discuss change without fear of recourse.
But usually, when talking about racial tension on a large scale like that you're really talking about massive social or foreign policy change. Most changes like that aren't really caused by racial tension but by conflicting interests in resources or power held by different parties. In those circumstances race becomes and issue only when it appears that one racial group has more than another does. Therefore by discriminating on the basis of race you're really just using it as an excuse for assuming that person is associated with something that disempowers you. Really, racial tension is just displacement of social tension. But the issue of racial difference is really pretty simple.
Obviously things were different back in the slave days. But the world is a bit smarter than that now. Most nations have laws against racial discrimination. Racial tolerance is also widely taught in schools, where children are educated about the realities of racial difference - something that didn't exist 100 years ago.
Education is also the reason why no one believes the planet is square anymore.
You're wrong in your belief that everyone is a racist or prejudice to some degree.
No one will ever be able to stop you from believeing whatever you want, but don't expect others to give it credit when you're wrong. If you ever want to know how to change your mind then you should travel to the places you're studying. You'll find that even in the most 'racially tense' regions there are still people who aren't racist or prejudice. It's these people who provide neutral ground for conflicting parties to resolve their differences.
I can't answer your question about racial stereotypes since I don't stereotype groups of people based on race. I discrimniate on the basis of political or social persuasion instead. For instance I think that all pedophiles should be shot, irregardless of race. I don't believe this to be prejudice because a this would require me to have formed an opinion on pedophilia without due knowledge or study. The notion that pedophiles destroy childrens' development is neither hasty nor incorrect.
The difference here is that pedophilia requires an act or intention to act, whereas being korean simply requires birth. The two are so very very different.
Racial tension is best relieved by widespread understanding that race doesn't hold people back from being human. Outward apperances and slight biological differences have no bearing upon a person's intentions or actions. I believe we already have that understanding, or at least the educated people do.

I try not to have any preconcieved notions based on race when I interact with people. In order to relieve racial tension, we can first learn to communicate with one another. We can try to understand one another and appreciate the differences in each other.
