See the link, it says once a week is fine, but this is what I know from personal experience.

I had the most constipated breastfed babies on the earth!!!! My doctor said up to 5 days was fine for a breastfed baby. My daughter would go 3-5 days and my son would only go once a week. When he was about 5 mos old we had to put him on miralax (glycolax) which is a non addictive, non stimulant stool softener. It may be something to consider if you baby isn't going often enough, or if he or she is crying a lot (this was the case with my son), he would cry most nights ALL night, not colic. When he went on the miralax he stopped the crying after 2 days. He was off it by the time he was 1 yr. But, do not fear if it is even and infrequent as 5 days. I would also recommend calling your Ped. and talking to a nurse to see what they think.

Each baby is different. My son had bowel movements every 4 - 10 days... I'm not kidding! The longest was obviously 10 days which thank god only happened once... but the average was every 5-7 days. It freaked my out constantly... I was always calling the pediatrician, taking him in to be examined, would give him prune juice, give him a rectal thermometer, belly rubs... nothing worked. Then at 6 months... once he started solids... he started having more regular movements.
Everyone told me to consider myself lucky... since I could probably count how many poopy diapers I changed the first six months... but being the mother, all you think about is poop!
By the way... breastfed babies are know to have few bowel movements. The breastmilk is digested so well... that the doctors used to joke with me and say... that "my son didn't waste a drop of the nutrients and left nothing to come out".

When my son was 3 months old, he went 10 days once without a bowel movement. I was worried but he didn't act as if he was in pain or constipated. The doctor said it was ok but not to let it go more than 10 days. The myth is that breastfed babies are drinking the most pure filtered food so they won't poop much.

You might find this hard to believe but it might have something to do with what food your eat'in. Did you know that everything you eat goes through the baby too. Think about it...makes sense huh..lol. When I first started breast feed'in it was new to me and poor little Britneys' tummy would rumble especially if I ate something that made me gassy or made me have more bowel movements. I learned fast though. Babies should have at least 1 or 2 bowel movements a day especially be'in breast feed babies sometimes up to 5 movements a day is perfectly normal. It is also very normal for a 3month old baby to go for up to 3 day without a movement. The problem only comes up if the baby becomes uncomfortable. That is time to talk with your baby doctor. If you'll type your question into the yahoo search they have given us below it'll take you to many sites. Go to the very first one and it's the first thing it talks about. Read that and I'm sure it'll make you feel more knowledgeable about what you and your baby are go'in through. Good luck honey. Enjoy your baby. Mine is 20yrs. old now and it's hard to get her up on my shoulder...LOL Take it from me...they grow up soooo very fast! When they're little they'll walk on your toes and when they're all grown they'll walk on your heart.@-}-}------

It's normal anywhere from a few times a day to once every week to 14 days even. Breastmilk is absorbed more fully than formula and so sometimes there's just not that much to come out, especially during a growth spurt. Unless your baby's in pain, then don't worry about it till after 14 days. If he/she's in pain then go see a doctor. Suppository's are pretty bad (habit forming - they make it so it's harder to poop without one) though so don't give your baby one unless there's a lot of pain or it's been longer than 14 days. If you take your baby to the doctor you can get suppositories...

All breast fed babies are different....As long as they have regular wet nappies, they could have a bowel motion any where from, 1 day to 1 every, 5 days. I have 6 children and they all have been different as you already will have realise from the different answer you have already been given. The only time you really have to monitor their bowel motions is when you start them on solids.

most breastfeeders have a bowel movement after each feeding that is really loose, but they can go so far as to only have one a day or one every couple of days, as long as your baby is having a bowel movement every three days he or she is fine, good luck with the breastfeeding!

it's normal for breastfed babies to go once a week. Breastmilk contains less solid waste than formula and that's why they go less often. My son goes about every other day or so.

Sometimes everyday, sometimes every other day or every 2 days. My daughter wasn't regular about pooping until she started eating solids. I took her in to the doctor and was told it was okay as long as she was nursing a lot and acted healthy otherwise.
