We got hit by the Kirbyman today. My wife was impressed, I was not. At least not the pricetag. Anyone actually own these? Tell me what you think.

I worked for Kirby for a while and in my opinion they are worth it. You can talk them down to $995. but that is the lowest the company will let them go. Also, the people get dumped on all the time. The company doenst pay the commision like they should. If you can talk them down, they are soooo worth it. Beleive me, I have seen some crap in peoples houses, and I know it works.

My mom had one when I was little, and it seemed cumbersome, maybe I was just too small but it also seemed very heavy. And I remember all the parts, too.

I'm sure it is a very good machine, I remember ours lasted my whole childhood with minimal repair. But there are lower priced vacuums that are excellent quality these days, they are also lighter, and many are bagless. I personally would go for any brand of cyclonic, or a Dyson if you want a high end machine for a lot less than a Rainbow, a Kirby, or any sort of built in system where the collection container is in the basement with outlets for the hose throughout the house.

They are good vacs but $1000 is a lot money for a vac. There are other great vacs out there at a fraction of the cost of a Kirby. I would rather spend 200 to 300 dollars or less rather than 1000. I do not think that any vac is worth 1000. but you have already done it, so enjoy it.

The Kirby has it's pros and cons.
Pros-Good suction, drive assisted, last a long time with good heavy duty motor, good air filtration.

Cons-Heavy to carry around, cumbersome attachments, they don't store with the vacuum, you have to pull the front off and attach a hose to use the attachments, at least mine does, hard to get into low clearnace areas like a canister vac can.

Another good thing is that when the Kirby guy comes next time you can tell them you already have a Kirby and they leave you alone.

I clean houses. I say that they are a pain to work, with all of the parts that come with it. If you are still wanting to get one though. You can go to one of the Kirby stores and buy one of the older ones, for less money. For some people they work like a charm and other people they don't.

i still have mine from 1960. the good thin about these is you can get replacement parts easily becuase the new parts and the old parts are the same... the cost is too much for it now, back then i paid 200 something......i would go for the regular ones if i had to buy one

I have cleaned houses and had to use one..i hated it. My sister inlaw has one too and ended up getting a lighter weight vac cause that one is so cumbersome. I'm not that impressed by them.

My wife purchased one, I was dubious at first. However, it has made her very happy. Well worth the money, especially if you make it a Christmas present.
