I came across a reference to the 1000 Journals Project in a great book called "Drawing From Life: The Journal as Art" by Jennifer New - a really good showcase of interesting, diverse journals by artists, writers, filmakers, scientists, etc. You most probably have checked out www.1000journals.com, so sorry for stating the obvious. But you may find some useful references there. I haven't encountered it in London either yet, but hope you find what you're looking for....
