A sort of slapping noise has occured a few times when starting out but it ends quickly. Any suggestions on what it might be??

They have quite a large serpentine belt under the hood which drives the water pump , alternator etc. I would check to see if the belt tensioner needs adjusted and this may be the problem. It may be sticking and then operate normally after the engine runs a bit .

if it only does it when you first start your engine. it sounds like a crankshaft bearing either rod bearing or main. i would say rod bearing. serpentine belt would do it all the time.
