What's the deal with teen pregnancy? I dont see it as a huge problem. As long as the couple is mature enough to handle it, I think it should be treated as any other pregnancy.

I see what you're saying, but since the teenager is in high school still, it is most likely that they will not be able to devote their full attention to their work and studies because of the baby. If the grandparents of the baby are kind and understanding enough they would take care of the baby when the parent are at school, but that is not the case all of the time. I personally would not like to become pregnant as a teenager... I am a bright person and I wish to attend a university, and having a child would make that goal more difficult than it has to be. But yes I see your point, if they are ready, mature, and know what they are doing, then why not?

It is a huge deal because the "couple" you think should be mature about isn't. Over half the teen pregnancy is on government assistance, living with parents, not with the bi logical parent of the child, high school drop outs and don't understand the concept of being a parent at 13 years of age. I highly doubt a 11 or 14 year old is mature enough to 1) get tested 2) get on bc 3) use condoms and 4) get help because they are afraid someone will see them or their parents will find out, is going to be mature through the pregnancy and raising a kid.

If can't afford and raise your own self, it is selfish to try to raise another human being.

Happened all the time in middle school and high school when I was there. Still happens while in college. Those of any age should not be producing if they can't take care of themself.

Your mind will change dramatically when your teenage daughter becomes pregnant and you will realize how broke your bank account will be. Much more the time you will loose as taken care of this baby that she will have a hard time handling. Most of the teenage fathers don't stay with the gf. Some stick around to help raise the kid, but when it comes to a 21 year old having sex with a 13 year old, I highly doubt you will think he will stay with her...especially since if that was my child, his a.ss would be in prison after he spent a lot of time in the hospital.

Much more, your tax's out of your pay check is going towards teen pregnancy too. Why should my hard earned money to towards people who knew better and think it isn't a big deal?

3/4 of teenagers think they are "mature enough" anyways to do things. I thought I was mature enough at 13 to do a lot of things. Now I realize how stupid I was and realize why my mom said no.

Then you will understand what the big deal about teen pregnancy is.

There is some teen mothers and fathers who DO take care of their children. But they do a lot of sacrafices and some can render their life until their children are grown up enough they can go back to school, go back to work or whatever. Play time is over when having a kid. I am very annoyed by those who still feel play time should happen and think their parents and grandparents are obligated to take care and watch them for free.

And just think if your daughter follows in your path you could be a grandma before your 30.

It’s all nice for those teen parents who are able to provide for their children and take care of them , finish school, I applaud them. However the problem is that is not the case with the majority of teen parents. I also think its hugely different being a teen parent in your late teens, then being one in your early or mid teens. As the poster above said she is 14 and has a baby. How is a 14 year old suppose to support a baby they cant get many jobs, besides babysitting , doing odd jobs, and all that will pay is minimum wage. What if the baby got ill at 14 you can’t drive.

well i dunno...if ur under 16 then it might be a lil' bit of a problem b.cuz the guy cud do a runner, she'd have to quit skwl with no qualifications and i gotta admit it must be kinda scary and 1 of my m8's is 14 same as me and she found out she was pregnant + doesn't no wat 2 do but wen most of her m8's found out they won't tlk 2 her and her parents have thrown her out so from that point of view it can be kinda bad but i believe if ur ready or not and u have a baby then the pregnancy shud be treated the same b.cuz if ur keeping the baby it's obviously wat u want

but ppl have a very bad opinion on young teen pregnancys in my childcare class we have to look after this life like baby that crys and everything and wen i had it some old granny came up 2 me in town and was like..."you shud b ashamed of urself having a baby at ur age where's the father done a runner i suppose..." talk about bitter!!
on the whole though i think ur right if they're mature enough to have sex and then have a baby together why shud they be treateed any different? it's ridicculas!!

btw...GR8 QUESTION!!

It is a huge problem because as a teenager you don't know what life is really like and you are not ready for the responsibilities of parenthood. I am in my thirties and I'm just now reaching the age where I'm emotionally mature enough to think about having children. No teenage couple is truly mature enough no matter how much they think they are.

For starters....You as a male don't have to worry about carrying around this living growing fetus for almost 10 months, contrary to popular belief of the original 9. Secondly, you are not the one who can no longer run around with their friends or go to school dances, homecomings, proms, parties...or even school for that matter. Just think of all the things a teen girl has to give up in order to care for her child. Most of the time, the male will flee his responsibility and leave this poor young lady to fend for herself and how to take care for the child mentally, physically, and financially. That is why there are so many single mothers out there in the world. Because some irresponsible young punk kid thinks there is no problem. Of course, until he is faced with the fact that he will also have to give up his life for this child...which most times (as already mentioned) he won't. The teen mind is not capable in this world today to be mature enough to handle all the challenges it takes to raise a child with good morals. Which includes NOT pawning the child off on their parents so they can still have their own childhood. It is not possible without there being some kind of consequence which is most likely to happen to the child not being brought up properly. Parents who become young grandparents are also not ready to take on the role of a grandparent. Therefore not doing their part in the upbringing of the child as grandparents do. With age comes wisdom. So before spouting off at the lips, next time do your research. And one last thing.....GROW UP!!!

Teens are not adults! My daughter had a teen pregnancy and married and now she is depressed because she cleans all day and stays home with the baby! Why do teens want to grow up so fast?? If you are a teen you have no idea what it is all about! Teens should not have sex because they dont know what they are getting into as well!

You don't see it as a huge problem? For all we know you've gotten a bunch of teens pregnant and ran off..

Like someone above said, you are the typical male who sees it as a chance for easy sex, oops had no condom, but oh well, few weeks later, girlfriends pregnant, and suddenly you have family issues out in alabama or whatever..

then you leave her out to raise a child by herself at 17 because her so called boyfriend ditched her like a pu.ssy. Guys have nothing to worry about. Its not you who has to carry around a living child. YOU can walk away..women can't. We have to be mature and raise the child you gave us even if we are a child ourselfs. THAT is why its a big deal.

It's one thing if the parents are mature enough to handle such and stay in school, blah blah blah. But if these little girls think it's cute to have a baby as an accessory and end up palming the baby off on their parents when the going gets tough, then that's a whole other issue.

It is not any other pregnancy. Your thinking is faulty. In the 1800's they may have grown up fast and were more responsible but today more teens treat it like fun-and games. Today's teens treat sex like it was roulette:; maybe she will and maybe she won't get pregnant.

Maturity had nothing to do with it. If they were mature they would act responsibly and not play around with sex. Morally mature responsible people (that includes teens) save sex for marriage.
