Bromeliads bloom only once. When the bloom (colored part) is spent it will loose color. The mother plant will then send out "pups" -- new plants from around the base. These kids can be separated from the mother for potting. Bromeliads generally like crowded coditions -- being root bound promotes the bloom. They enjoy being watered in the cup that is formed in the center of the leaves. Keeping water in this cup creates the humidity they love. Have fun.

Bromeliads need diffuse light, moisture and organic soil. Try adding some bone meal to the soil, or replant it in a mixture of peat moss and perlite (expanded silica) and add some rose or azalea food.

First answer is good. Have you checked the roots? It could be root bound at this point, if you haven't ever repotted it. Overwatering is a bad thing for bromeliads as well.
Best of luck!

If it is the flower stalk that is losing color, then it is almost spent and should be cut off. If it is the plant itself, I'd say it's not getting enough light.
Good luck :-)
