The formula for the slope of the straight line going through the points (x1, y1) and (x 2, y 2) is given by:

m= y2 - y1 / x2 - x1

y - y1 = m(x - x1)

It is a formula you use when you know a point on the line, and you know, or have figured out, the slope. M is the slope. Y1 and x1 are the coordinates of the point. So if you have a point at
(2, -5) and a slope of 1/2 the formula would look like this.
y - (-5) = 1/2(x - 2)

Then solve it.

It stems from the formula for a straight line y = mx + c

If x1,y1 and x2, y2 are two points on the line then the solpe m can be determined by the formula:
m = (y2-y1)/(x2 - x1)

dont worry
equation is (y-y1)=m(x-x1)
don't worry about y and x, u need only find y1,m,x1
m=slope(they will give u or find it by using(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
they will give you some thing like this(2,3) or (1,-2) etc
then Y1=3 in (2,3)
X1=2(2,3)
then find out the answer. u can write 2 type of answer
1. slope-intercept Y=Mx+B
2. general formula A+B=C

y-y1=slope(x-x1) i think most use m 4 slop

some ppl may use diff letters so ill break it down

say u have points (3,5) and (4,6) 3=Y 5=x 4=y1 6=x1

y-y1 =m(x-x1)

y1=y subscript 1

x1=x subscript 1

y - k = m(x - h)

The line goes through point (h,k) and has slope m.

(y - y1) = m(x-x1)

(y1,x1) is your point
m is your slope
and you know what x and y are
