This is what I used... a combination of clorox and water.. about two parts clorox to l-2 parts water.. I put it in a used spray bottle and sprayed it on.. spray on a little and let it dry.. if stain still present, do it again.. until the stain has disappeared. I have used this method a number of times.. EVEN on that popcorn ceilings

The real issue is not removing the stain, which is almost impossible, but stopping the source and then sealing and covering it. Kilz works well, as does shellac. Once you've stopped the cause of the stain and covered it, match the color and repaint.

I've used baking soda and water before on walls to get stains off. It seemed to work alot better than bleach and water.

My hubby is a painter and he uses Kilz all the time. Home Depot will have it. Works well for all different types for stains.

Use Kilz primer. Any paint store has it. It will seal the stain and then you can repaint. (and thin no more)
