Since you mention that this file opens with another file, not all files, it could be hidden in some code in that file. There are a few places to check.

Each sheet has code associated and if the auto_open macro name is used, the code is executed upon opening that file.

To look at a sheet's code, right click on the sheetname tab at the bottom and click view code. If there is code there, you can delete it or make it all comments by putting a single quote on the first column of every line of code (').

Also check in Tools, Macro, Macros for a macro called auto_open as well.

Other answerers suggested looking for the file in the xlstart folder. ANY file in that folder will open, if you re-name it, it will still open under any name if it is in that folder. Move it out or delete the file and it won't open from the xlstart folder.

As far as sharing, there is a menu command under the Tools Menu called Share Workbook. Click it and you will be prompted for what to do. If your version of Excel has it in a different place, just search share workbook in the help and you will find where it is. It could be hidden as well. Go to Window, Unhide. If Unhide is gray, there are no hidden files, if you can click it there are hidden files and clicking it will show you their names and allow you to unhide them.

Good Luck!

Do a Search from the Start menu for the file personal.xls. If it is in a folder called xlstart, delete (rename or move) it. Then it will no longer load. Any xls files in the xlstart folder will start whenever an Excel sheet is opened.
