My laptop wont start. It said "missing file". i tried to format by booting from windows xp cd. However no success, becuase it said NTFS, and my laptop crash.

Selecting NTFS starts the disk format. If the format is crashing then the hard drive is bad. That may be why you had "missing files" to begin with. You can try doing an fdisk before the format. But if that fails also, then you will need to replace the hard drive.

Try the repair install option from the cd...NTFS is the file structure for the hard drive...it should have given you choice of NTFS or FAT32. ..was the previous format FAT32?

i just had a problem like this with my desktop
if it wont do anything at all and every time it trys to boot off the cd thd computer just shuts down
here is what i had to do
jump the cmos
you more that likeley had a virus what one i havent even figured out yet but anyway after you jump the cmos you should be able to boot off the cd
oh yea if you dont know anything about computer like how they work or what parts are what then dont do this because you can screw stofe up but if you know a guy that has done it before get him to do it and all your problems are solved
