Well I've had my fish tank for about 4 months I bought 8 fish and since then they have all died except for 3. My water temp is good. They get fed right. And I clean the tank regularly.

Your tank is finally becoming mature enough to support fish. Make sure that you use water warmed to the same as the tank when doing your water changes. Add some salt for freshwater aquariums every three months to relieve any stress. And cut the amount you feed in half (you will probably think they will starve, but that is how much other people feed). With a new tank, the constant spikes in ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates stress the fish leaving them prone to sickness, and with a drastically shortened life span. Remember to treat sick fish in another container (even a bucket) rather then adding medications to your tank as they kill the beneficial bacteria forcing you to suffer from 'new tank syndrome' all over again.

It sounds like you over whelmed the fish tank by starting with to many fish. Take a sample of your water to your local pet store and ask them to test if for you, a healthy fish tank has a delicate bacterial culters that help remove ammonia and other toxins that fish make(remeber they poo in their water) Also every other week you should change 20% of the water(never change all the water) Then if you water checks out to be fine I'd slowly add more fish, 1or2 a week until you have what your tank can hold. The idea is 1" of fish (ask the pet store emploee how big it'll get) for 1 gallon. Good luck!

Really, you aren't suppose to clean the tank regularly. Do you have a filter in the tank? You can buy an algie eater(fish) for the tank. I would go to a pet store and get some advice.

seriously, did you buy your fish from wal-mart? or any other like wal-mart? most of the time they buy badly-handled fish and have a little 16-year-old maintaining them... well, you see what i mean. go to an actual pet store or aquarium specialty shop. you may pay more but it's worth it.

anyway, on a regular basis i add a new dose of stress coat, some de-ammonia drops, and be sure to change your filter on an even-more regular basis! on top of a regular cleaning. and NEVER switch out ALL the water in the tank! they need the bacteria to survive. otherwise they'll go into shock and die.

i'm no expert, but i've had the same goldfish for 3 years (his name is fleshy) and nearly killed him in as many times. and my co-worker used to work in the aquarium at a local pet store, so i had good know-how on hand. fleshy is like our departmental mascot. everyone looks out for him when i'm gone. and they DO have a little personality all their own. funny.

I hope you mean you do water changes regularily. What fish are you buying?

Thoroughly research the fish you are getting before buying. Don't just go into a pet store. Plenty of fish die from incompatibility. It would also have been nice to know if you have a filter, heater(the basics but some people are ignorant.)

Your water readings could be helpful. pH, amonia, GH and temp, nitrates, nitrites... if you dont' know what those are, I suggest thoroughly researching before your cost more fish their lives.

What type fish are they? Just plain ole Goldfish and Tropical fish are like night and day. They have their own type of food, water temperature and other things. Are they salt water fish?

Are you putting anti-chlorine drops to kill the chlorine? Are you treating them to prevent Ich and other diseases? Chlorine will kill any type fish in a few days if not a few hours.

First, go to a pet store and buy a good book on keeping aquarium fish. It will tell you everything you need to have and do to have healthy fish. Don't forget, buy one for goldfish IF you have gold fish OR one for tropical fish if that is what you have. Something is wrong in your water. Buy the book and read. Pops

You need to do a Chemical test, especially if you used tap water to fill your tank. There are traces of chemicals and bacteria in tap water that can kill your fish. I've have lots of fish and thats the most important thing. You can buy a testing kit from Wal-Mart.

You are supposed to introduce a new fish to an aquarium every 3 months. You did this suddenly, and it was probably over crowded, and your fish got stressed out. Do not add any more fish for a while.

Putting in a lot of new fish is the problem. They bring in new germs, and other fish get sick. Put a FungusClear tablet in before adding new fish.
