As soon as I can afford presents...some years that's "early" in the season and some years it's really close to Christmas.

I start thinking about it around now and pick up a few items here and there until about 2 weeks before X-mas - then it's simply too horrific to step into the mall.

I try to start right around now. Especially since my two children have November birthdays as well. But I'm a gift nut, and I am still at some store or another lunchtime on Christmas Eve looking for last minute extra gifts.

Shopping for Christmas? Its not even halloween or thanksgiving yet!

Anyway, people start shopping for Christmas right after Thanksgiving. Only on that Friday morning where you can buy stuff for really cheap prices!

I do it as a background activity all year long - come up with much more appropriate presents that way, avoid the rush, and don't end up running around buying thoughtless crap at the last minute.
