My family sits on the floor in the living room. We have a three year old and ten month old and it's easier for us to just gather in the living room because our three year can't sit still to save her life. My husband also works nights and on most nights he doesn't even make it to dinner. So how many families make it a priority to gather around the table for meals each night?

What is it that "the dining room table symbolizes?" Think about it, our constant guilt as Mothers that if we don't sit down at "the table" every nite--there is something horribly wrong with our family!! I think if we are eating and communicating (together) it's a wonderful thing-- even if we are standing on our heads in the bathroom at the time!!!!

We are fortunate that at this time, I am a stay at home mother, my husband is on an 8-4 shift, and we have a seven and an eight year old. Back when the kids were younger, both of us were working opposite shifts so that one or the other was home with the kids, and we quite frequently did exactlly what ya'll do (we also had cereal or pancakes for dinner because I would be just too tired to cook)

We try and gather around the table sometimes but with both my husband and I holding two full time jobs, it rarely happens. We tend to sit in the lounge too - it is just easier at the end of a long day. Our son will eat at a different time from us and we sit at the table with him while he eats and have a glass of wine.

We do. Not in any formal, say grace kinda way. Supper is just better served for us at the table in the kitchen. It is our normal way of eating, but sometimes we take pizza or something to our library (we put the TV as far out of sight as possible in our house) room and watch a movie with the kids. Breakfast is rarely together, lunch is usually like dinner. (we homeschool and farm)

I insist we sit at the table. The Television is not allowed to be on but we can play some soft music. By eating together we get to talk and laugh together for at least 40 minutes out of the day.

WE DO AS MANY NIGHTS AS POSSIBLE. IF MY HUBBY IS WORKING NIGHTS(2 NIGHTS A WEEK). I SIT WITH MY SON 13 MOS, AT THE TABLE. AS A HABIT WE EAT ALL MEALS IN THE DINING AREA, MOSTLY TO PREVENT EXTRA MESS AROUND THE HOUSE.

IF WHAT YOU ARE DOING WORKS FOR YOU AND YOU ARE SPENDING QUALITY TIME THEN GO FOR IT! ITS THE TIME THATS SPENT TOGETHER THAT MATTERS ...NOT WHERE THE GATHERING IS!

we eat at the dinner table about 2 times per week. Both of us are so busy that we rarely get to eat together at home.
