He's my grandson. He's a precious sweet boy with a rich grandpa who gets him just about everything....he loves to read, loves the outdoors, loves StarWars, loves movies, but has most everything. Looking to spend about $100. Should I just give him a crisp $100 bill? I don't like the idea of it really, but on the other hand, I want him to have something he doesn't already have. Clothes are out of the question...his grandpa just took him shopping for a weekend in Sacramento and San Francisco...sigh.

Thanks for the kind replies. For those who could only find hurtful things to say, I want you to know that this child is NOT spoiled rotten. Also, spending $100 on one's own grandchild is NOT excessive. Christian is a kind, well-balanced boy with great grades and good values. He happens to have a grandfather who loves to buy him things.....he should not 'pay' for that. A gift is a gift. I was particularly pleased at the suggestions to offer my time to do something special with him. Thanks so much. BTW, I have decided that I'm going to give him a $100 gift certificate to StarWars.com. My husband and I will also be taking him fishing for the day in our small fishing boat.

Well, since he has everything, why not try this? Assuming
you live nearby, tell him you need someone to help rake the yard & would he be interested. Then tell him he can buy his own present with the money he earns. Or have him help clean the car, or some other chore. Either way, when a 7 year old boy already has everything, your options are short, and I would venture to say he's spoiled rotten. No offense, but I can only imagine what he's going to do when he reaches the age and "has" to work for what he needs, much less what he "wants." And by the way? $100.00 is rediculas, especially for a 7 year old.

Start by giveing him movie passes complete with gift cards for snacks and drinks there. Next, you could give him a gift card for something fun like an amusement park, etc. Here in CT, I could buy a day with the penguins at my local aquarium for about $60. Something unique and different like that would be nice. Do you have swimming with the dolphins or stingrays in Ca?

If you give him a $100 bill at age seven, he could come to expect more at each subsequent birthday.
Why not buy him something traditional and useful, something that says, "Money should be saved and spent on needful things." Something for school, to enhance his experience. Could give him something special that has meaning to you and the family perhaps, something he will save forever and treasure in his elderly days, even if it's just in memory, like a small figurine, family heirloom.

How about a FUN Day for the two of you? Take him to a movie or somewhere he likes to go, take him to his favorite place to eat. Spend the day together, and (if possible) let him make the choices of where to go. You two could have a wonderful day together. You could ask him, what he would like to have. I promise you, that he will remember a fun day just the two of you together, a lot longer than he will remember the gift you got him.

My grandsons have everything too!
The last gift I bought them was swimming lessons. Something that stays with them forever.
Sometimes it's not the gift you give but the time you give them. Take them somewhere they have never been before. A ferry ride or to a pantomime. Buy a whole lot of books and keep them at your place and when he comes over to stay the night spend the time reading to him. My grandchildren just love it.
Play games with him etc.

Maybe take him to a special place that he hasn't been to before. I'm sure he would enjoy the time you spend with him.
